Danger from arcing faults
The National Arc Fault Research Center (NARC) at TUD Dresden University of Technology is involved in the investigation of high-current arcing faults and switching arcs in low-voltage systems in projects with partners from industry and science.
If arcing faults occur in high power low voltage systems, it is not uncommon for human lives to be at risk. In addition, entire systems can be destroyed and the electrical power supply can fail as a result.
Arcing faults are often caused by animals in the system, but also by incorrectly dimensioned equipment. A large number of arcs are caused by carelessness when carrying out maintenance and operating work.
